The WWTP was originally constructed in 1965 to provide primary treatment and upgraded in 1977 to provide secondary treatment through a contact stabilization activated sludge process. The 2018 upgrade, permitted with an annual average flow of 0.92 MGD, improved overall system operations and increased the Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) capacity for total nitrogen (TN) removal from their wastewater. The upgrade included new Influent pumps, new automatic influent screen, new grit removal system an addition of Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge (IFAS) System along with various other improvements. Concurrent with the upgrade project an Infiltration and Inflow (I/I) remediation project within the Jim Thorpe collection system was undertaken to lower Influent peak flow rates.
