PLANT OPERATOR
Duties
Inspects, operates and maintains sewage treatment plant pumps, controls, valves, blowers, tanks, buildings, digesters, property, vehicles, equipment, components and all other tools and equipment in the sewage treatment plant.
Treatment Plant
Inspects and monitors the various treatment processes and collects samples thereof and delivers same to the laboratory.
Reviews daily lab results with Assistant Superintendent/Foreman and makes any process changes as instructed.
Calibrates various instruments as directed.
Enters data into WIMs daily for calculations of settling rates, F/M ratios, mean cell resistance times and monitors results.
Recognize operational or process problems and reports them to the Assistant Superintendent or Foreman.
Operates valves and pumps to control the treatment processes.
Inspect at least twice per shift, all pumps, motors, blowers, and other equipment for proper operation, noting any problems.
Completes maintenance request forms and submits same to Lead Operator.
Performs routine housekeeping and maintenance of all facilities such as washing weirs, painting, mowing, snow removal, cleaning and lubricating.
Performs routine review of SCADA computer for daily operations of treatment plants.
ABILITY TO:
Be efficient in completing all work.
Be available and able to work when called in for emergencies.
Be able to work indoors and/or outdoors in all situations presented. Be able to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions.
Be knowledgeable of occupational hazards, safety precautions and approved policies and procedures.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED certificate.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain the following physical abilities: see well enough to read, write and make observations, operate hand and power tools, vehicles and heavy equipment; hear well enough to converse on the radio, telephone and in person; bodily mobility to walk, bend, stand, crouch or climb for extended periods of time, operate assigned equipment and vehicles and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods; ability to tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing essential functions and be able to lift and handle heavy equipment.
As of January 1, 2025, starting salary is $39.88/hour with $I/hour increase after 6 months. Benefits including pension are available.
